The system is recognized as one of China’s first key energy equipment
It reduces the cost of backup power from 2.8 to 1.5 RMB per kilowatt-hour
Zijin is developing megawatt-level power generation systems
An ammonia-based hydrogen fuel cell system developed by FZU Zijin, a hydrogen energy joint venture between Zijin Mining and Fuzhou University, has been included in the list of the first pieces of key energy equipment released by China’s National Energy Administration in late October. The list is the third of its kind published by the NEA.
The 10Kw-level distributed power generation system, which uses ammonia as fuel, is a complete set of clean and carbon-free equipment. It supplies efficient, highly reliable, and emission-free energy for long durations at low noise levels. The equipment is ideal for facilities with strict noise control and environmental requirements, such as telecommunication base stations, hospitals, and schools. It is also suitable for emergency power supply in extreme environments such as mountains, islands, and deserts, as well as for large-scale backup power supply and energy supply for remote areas. The equipment could help reduce carbon emissions in transportation, energy storage, power generation, and industrial sectors, thus creating significant economic and social benefits.
If used for base stations, the equipment could help reduce power costs to 1.5 RMB per kilowatt-hour, compared to 2.8 RMB per kilowatt-hour from diesel power generation. If a single base station consumes an average of 0.25% of its power demand from backup hydrogen power (25 hours of power per year per station), the backup power consumption of base station operator China Tower would top 1.25 billion kWh, which would cut carbon emissions by more than one million tonnes per annum.
FZU Zijin will strive for technological breakthroughs in the energy field, advance equipment iteration and innovation, and develop megawatt-level power generation systems, to meet the demand of various industries. The company also plans to apply the ammonia-based hydrogen energy technology in more fields, to propel Zijin’s low-carbon transformation, support a modern energy model that is clean, low-carbon, secure, and efficient, and help the world achieve carbon peaking and neutrality.
