On November 28, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Chen Jinghe, Chairman of Zijin Mining, at the Presidential Palace in Belgrade. President Vučić applauded the global metals miner for its operations in Serbia and had in-depth discussions with Chairman Chen on the company’s sustainable development.

During the meeting, Chairman Chen expressed his gratitude towards President Vučić and the Serbian government for their support of Zijin Mining over the years. He updated the President on the company’s projects in Serbia, noting that as the company’s Serbian subsidiaries make strides in their operations, local communities have seen significant improvements in their living environment and quality of life. Mr. Chen said that guided by the principles of “green development” and “development for all,” Zijin Mining will work to establish eco-friendly mining as a strong driver of Serbia’s economic growth.

President Vučić acknowledged the significance of Zijin Mining’s projects in Serbia, particularly in job creation and GDP growth. He thanked the company for its contributions to the country’s economic and social progress. He said that the Serbian government is committed to environmentally responsible business strategies and will further promote efforts to balance mining activity with environmental protection, to ensure sustainable development. President Vučić noted that Serbia supports Zijin’s presence and further investment in the country, and expressed readiness for continued collaboration to boost industrial development and generate more employment opportunities.
The meeting was attended by Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali, Minister of Mining Dubravka Đedović, Economy Minister Adrijana Mesarović, Mayor of Bor Aleksandar Milikić, and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming. Zijin Mining’s Vice President Wu Jianhui, CFO Wu Honghui, and Vice President Wang Chun were also present.

During his visit to the country, Chairman Chen Jinghe was also met by Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević. Prime Minister Vučević said the Serbian government held detailed discussions with Zijin Mining on the potential of expanding investment in the mining sector. He emphasized that the highest environmental standards and principles of sustainable development will remain applicable to the mining industry. Prime Minister Vučević further noted while joint efforts are made to protect and extract natural resources, steps should also be taken to drive economic growth, create more jobs, and improve living standards in the country.
